Alerts & Letter Writing CampaignsWhy
An Idaho Trappers Association ?? What
do we do?? We,
oppose
propaganda put forth by animal rights activist, over- zealous environmental
persons, anti-trapping and anti-hunting organizations.
We put forth great effort to educate the public on the consumptive use of
game animals as a necessary wildlife management tool and teach our youth and new
trappers within the association to properly harvest and manage Idaho’s
renewable furbearing resources. In
1999 Idaho’s State Wildlife Commission approved harvesting of “Otter”,
which was needed in many of our rivers due to an expanding population of the
species deleting our famous Idaho Salmon and other fishes.
The ITA was the leader in this action with “Beyond the Call”
assistance from our friend (now retired) State
Furbearer Biologist Wayne Melquist and in February 2003 IDFG Gina Patton
continued departmental effort by securing temporary cites tags for our otter
harvest on the eve of the Idaho Trappers fur sale in Gooding, ID.
This appreciated action brought immediate higher prices for our trappers
on their otter by allowing the buyers to ship the pelts out of the US.
Also,
the ITA was the major factor in keeping the Canadian Lynx from being listed as
an endangered species across the continent, which prevented thousands of acres
of public land from being closed.
The
Idaho Trappers Association Administration and Board continually work hard to
keep our rights here at home as well as financially assist other states as often
as our budget allows, BUT,
none of these moves would be possible without the support of our great
membership!
The foundation of the ITA. So,
come join us if your in support of our objectives, meet great people, fight for
what you believe in and are entitled too, have lots of family fun at our annual
convention and fur sales if in Idaho. If
you’re
not from Idaho, we appreciate your support as a member.
You also receive the Trapper & Predator Caller for only $10.00 per
year for 10 great issues.
You have voting privileges the same as resident members which helps keep
Idaho Trappers
functioning as you feel an association should in protection of united
trappers rights.
Same dues
for residents and non-residents. So visit our on-line application -
be heard, be appreciated - be part of Idaho! Always
Yours for Better Trapping, President, Hance Clayton
